Brass Instruments

There are several families of musical instruments. They are classified by brass, percussion, strings, and woodwinds. Within the brass family are instruments such as trombone, trumpet, tuba, French horn, and more. These instruments are grouped together because in order to produce sound, you must produce vibrations with the mouth. These instruments can have low sounds as well as high sounds. They are most typically played in a band.

Grammar Point: The Compound Noun

Words can be combined to form compound nouns. They usually have 2 parts. The first part tells what kind of object or person the noun is, or its purpose. The second part identifies the object or person. For example, with the word policeman, the first part  (police) is the type/purpose. The second part (man) identifies the police. Some more examples are fireman, greenhouse, and more.

Write 3 sentences using compound nouns.

  1. Good entry! Did you play an instrument? I didn't. I just sing.
You only have one compound noun in your entry -- French horn, but you don't mention it in your grammar point.
